Relief in Need: Humanitarian Aid for Earthquake-Affected Areas of Myanmar

A devastating earthquake recently struck the northern regions of Myanmar, particularly impacting Mandalay and Sagaing. Thousands of families have seen their homes reduced to rubble, and essential infrastructure—including roads, water supply systems, and healthcare facilities—has been severely damaged. The situation is further complicated by the fact that the area is a militarized zone with ongoing armed conflict, making the delivery of aid especially dangerous and challenging.

Hungarian Baptist Aid, in cooperation with Baptist World Aid and the Baptist Forum for Aid and Development (BFAD), is providing rapid and targeted assistance in this critical situation. In the first phase, 600 families—approximately 3,000 people—will receive two weeks’ worth of non-perishable food, hygiene kits, and water filtration equipment.

These aid packages will be delivered to the hardest-hit areas in the coming days. The contents are tailored to local dietary needs and include rice, dried pasta, canned fish, beans, yellow split peas, peanut oil (a local staple), spices, and basic hygiene supplies.

This humanitarian initiative marks the first step in a broader relief effort that offers not only physical support to those in need but also hope to people who have lost their homes, safety, and future—demonstrating that international cooperation can bridge even the widest divides in times of crisis.
